INTERVIEW WITH PELUMI ADENIJI Of The Clones

THE FRONT MAN OF THE IBADAN BASED ROCK BAND: THE CLONES

The five-man band has been in existence since 2011 and has performed gigs all around western

Nigeria. The Rockazworld team caught up with Pelumi Adeniji, the frontman of the band and we had

a little chit-chat.

RW:  Most people do not know the faces behind the band The Clones, can you give a brief

introduction of yourself?

Pelumi:  My name is Adeniji Pelumi, a graduate of psychology from the prestigious University of

Ibadan .  I am from Ogbomosho in Oyo state and I currently reside in Ibadan.

RW: What instruments do you play and how long have you been playing?

Pelumi: I play the acoustic guitar and I started playing around 2009

RW: Were you in any band before The Clones?

Pelumi: Before University, I was part of an acapella group called Deevees. I brought up the idea of

the band with Kindle who was then my classmate. Ha manages the band now.

RW: Do you write your own songs as a band?

Pelumi: Yes, absolutely. Laolu (guitarist) and I do most of the songwriting.

RW:  What are your songs about and what specific themes do they cover?

Pelumi:  well being a Christian band, our songs are themed over a wide range. From the Christian

faith to young love, to heartbreaks, love for humanity, universal tolerance and just outright out of

the box concepts.

RW: Are they inspired by personal experiences?

Pelumi: yes, some are inspired by personal experiences while others are inspired by the scriptures,

the society and other rock bands.

RW: what other rock bands inspire you?

Pelumi: Skillet, Third Day, Switchfoot, Relient K, Stellar Kart and Mayday Parade

RW: What subgenre of rock would you say you tend towards as a band?

Pelumi: Alternative, Alternative Rock, Alternative Punk

RW: What is your outlook on the Nigerian music industry and the prospects for rock music?

Pelumi: Ah.. to be honest, the industry is seriously booming...but still still lacks the musical quality to  an extent...rock bands will have to do more to get the attention of a wider audience in Nigeria.

RW: How about the poor sound production among Nigerian Rock Bands?

Pelumi: I think I will attribute that to lack of funds to go for the best sound mix engineers.

RW: You think even the best local sound engineers can produce a proper rock song?

Pelumi: YES O! We have seasoned sound mix engineers out there... Sheyman, Foster Zeeno etc..

RW:  Any new material coming from The Clones?

Pelumi: Yes, we have a single in the works titled “FREE ME”, been a long time coming.

RW: Yellow Garri Or Ijebu Garri?

Pelumi: hahahahahahahaha........ Ijebu garri

RW: Thank you very much

Pelumi: Thanks for having me.

The Isomers EP Review

The Isomers EP Review
EP: The Isomers Extended play
Artist: The Isomers
Duration: 25:04mins
Release date: 24th April 2015
Tracks: 6

From the federal capital rises this unique, fun and loving rock band, THE ISOMERS consists of five(5) band members: Seun Daniel (lead singer) Motie Tru(lead Guitarist) Issac( Bass Guitarist, back vocals) Monlee( Keyboard) and Nelson Oladeji(Drums).
The EP had an experimental sound of its own from folk rock to blues rock back to punk rock, probably because of their influences from bands like: Mumford and sons, pink, fall out boys to name a few.

My favorite is Pretty flowers, it has this punk rock feel to it, when I first listened to the song it reminded me of a song I had heard before, though it started out low then pitched professionally well and I applaud them.
Bleed Away is another track I love my them, the lyrics is deep, the instruments are smooth and compelling not forgetting the originality and creativity of this track.
Coming down to Oya, this track has a little bit of a similar sound to Olori oko by Infinity, commercially it was the most successful track on the Ep.
Home would be the fourth track I would go for, it has this sound to it that keeps you still till you are done with it then it leaves you with a smile and total relief
I would also commend the album art it was quite creative, you could almost see silence in the picture
With the variation and uniqueness of their tracks, there's one thing we can say for sure is they are here to brigade the gap between rock and urban music and In their own way also shade a different light on the genre in Nigeria.

Seeing this band perform on stage was magical, they had the hearts of the audience , they have a good head start this being their first EP/ work, there's always room for improvement, this is a band to watch out for and we expect the best from them.
