Hearing the name “Clones” for
the first time, one’s mind might instantly be cast to Darth Vader’s Storm
Troopers from the Star Wars franchise. But nay! These aren’t white robot
intergalactic soldiers shooting laser beams from handguns and rifles. Clones is a Rock band formed in Ibadan, Oyo
in 2011 and are based in Ibadan, Nigeria.
The idea for the formation of a band was born in 2010 when Pelumi met
Debola in freshmen year psychology class at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
The actual band formation began in sophomore year (2011) when Pelumi and Itoro
met Temitope (Bass Guitar) and Solomon (Lead Guitar) and began talks about
recruiting them into the band. They both agreed but the band still needed a
drummer, that was when James was recruited. It was decided the band be called “Synergy”. The band performed several
gigs on and off the University campus.
In 2012, Solomon and James
decided to quit the band as a result of other personal obligations. A while
after, Temitope also quit the band for undisclosed reasons. The other band
members were determined to make the band work thereby recruiting ‘Laolu, Mfon (Itoro’s
brother) and Obaloluwa (Pelumi’s Classmate). The band was then renamed “Clones”; inspired by
God...and his image.

In 2014, the band unofficially released a demo song titled “I Don’t Want This Drama”. Although
unofficially released, the song accurred
a lot of mixed reviews. The band
has sited influences from foreign bands like Skillet, Switchfoot, Stellar Kart,
Mercy Me, Relient K, Sanctus Real, P.O.D
and Rush of Fools.
